UNESCO 11th International Conference, Romania

The students of CISH attended the UNESCO 11th International Conference in Romania

Day 1:

  • Fundatiunea University’s library Fundatiunea 
  • The National Museum of Art of Romania 
  • Elite Art Gallery
  • Sfântul Spirdon Vechi Church
  • Parlamentul Român
  • UNESCO’s headquarters in Romania

The group first visited the square where the Romanian revolution originated, surrounded by Fundatiunea University’s library which is the largest scale in Romania, and the National Museum of Art of Romania, which was the Royal palace of Romania. 

The team then had a short visit to the Elite Art Gallery and Sfântul Spirdon Vechi Church, which helped students to comprehend the Art and religious architecture in the country, they took some memorable pictures in front of a grand building Parlamentul Român (the parliament of Romania), which is the third largest parliament building in the world. 

After all, the team arrived at the headquarters of UNESCO in Romania, and listened to a wonderful speech made by the president of this affiliation of UNESCO, introducing the vision of the organization. We then watched a video about the cultural traditions and activities in Romania, which gave our young cultural ambassadors a brief view of the beautiful history and culture of Romania.

Day 2:

  • Study trip to the Monastery the Argeş Court and the Fountain of Manole
  • Visit to the School Vlaicu Voda

On the second day, the group visited some ancient churches that were built in 8th or 9th century, and the famous historical Monastery Church. By visiting those constructions with a pastors’ interpretation, we got a better understanding of the history, religions, and architecture of those churches. After, the team went to the high school Vlaicu Voda with over one hundred years of history and watched a promotional video of Romania’s culture with many innovative ideas which were made by their students. 

Students from our team and Romania then had some free time for conversation, which let both of the regions’ young people have an impressive comprehension about each other’s cultures.

Day 3:

  • The 11th Youth and Museum international conference of UNESCO
  • Visit to the Golesti Museum

On July 5th, delegates from CISH and CCSC participated the 11th Youth and Museum international conference of UNESCO. This time, the conference was convened in Golesti Museum, which is established in 1939. This museum has amount of architectures from varying periods, which shows the history of Golescu family and the local culture. 

During this conference, students of Romania performed their traditional dance, and Chinese students brought Chinese calligraphy, paper cutting, and Chinese song performances,  which gave a good opportunity for students to show their own cultures and comprehend other’s culture as well.

Moreover, the students from CISH and CCSC provided presentations respectively for the topic of this international conference and communicate with many specialists about the methods of promoting the cultural education.

Day 4:

  • Art Museum Craiova, Craiova 
  • The Museum Oltenia, Oltenia

On the fourth day, our delegation team visited the Art Museum of Craiova. This museum exhibits a variety of art works, from oil paintings to carvings, from Renaissance to modern art, our young delegation got to visit various types of art works created by famous Romanian artists in different time periods. 

With the explanation from the curator and a professional translation, the historical background of each artist and creation was introduced in great detail, thus allowing our young cultural ambassadors to comprehend the beautiful interrelationship of history and art in Romania’s fascinating culture.

Romanian artist, Constantin Brancusi’s art ⟪Kiss⟫ for instance, was exhibited in the museum. His carvings were influenced by Cubism, a popular type of carving in the early 20th century, which was well recognized and extremely valuable in the field of carving,  even nowadays.

After enjoying the incredible world of art, our team visited The Museum of Oltenia, which exhibits ancient equipment that was used to produce bread, which is not only a major food in Romania, but also a significant symbolic existence in Romanian weddings, new-born ceremonies, and funerals. 

In the museum, the traditional clothing, handmade carpets and religious icons were also displayed.

The sophisticated technique of hand making the traditional carpets and clothing tells the effort that Romanians put into the art world, and more importantly, how they inherited the fascinating culture, and history of Romania.

Final Day:

By having this fascinating learning in Romania, the delegation team gained much knowledge in the various aspects of culture in Romania in comparison to the past, such as art, and religions. Furthermore, the international conference Youth and Museum gave the participants the chance to spread their own cultures to the other parts of the world, and accept other’s culture at the same time, the exchange of information also let students from China, Italy, and Romania have a better impression with each other’s country. 

The CISH and CCSC team got many inspirations of how to develop the cultural education from delegates’ amazing presentations during the conference as well, which may have a significance for our schools to improve the method of promoting multi-cultural education.
