Kathryn Blaikie

Kathryn Blaikie is from Halifax, Nova Scotia and has been working in education for over 7 years.  She graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Gender Studies. Kathryn went on to receive her ECE Montessori training, and immensely enjoyed two years as a Montessori kindergarten teacher in the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is Guidance however, that combines all of her passions. Kathryn has worked and volunteered for a number of health resource centers, crisis help lines, and women's organizations throughout Canada, the US and the Middle East. She is an active crisis advocate, and process group counsellor. Kathryn is experienced in leading intervention, bystander, and peer support workshops as well as workplace inclusivity training, safe-space and anti-oppression training.​ She is certified in ASSIST life-promotion, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Social Work from Thompson Rivers University.  At CISH, Kathryn has previously taught as a homeroom teacher in both Grade 5 and K1. She is also a IB Diploma Program teacher.  Kathryn is currently the PYP Guidance Counsellor. She believes in the value of supporting students by understanding not only the student, but the environment in which a student lives, works and acts. Kathryn believes in the power of play, and the power of student agency.  In her spare time, Kathryn likes to read, hike and play Scrabble.
