The Canadian International School of Hefei (CISH) is proud to be an authorized IB World School, offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Designed for students aged 11 to 16, the IB MYP is more than just a curriculum—it’s a transformative framework that inspires students to become creative, critical, and reflective thinkers. This program provides a coherent and comprehensive educational challenge, equipping students with essential life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

During these formative years, as students are establishing their identities and building self-esteem, the MYP plays a pivotal role in motivating them to reach their full potential. By fostering a passion for learning and encouraging academic excellence, the MYP not only prepares students for success in school but also lays a strong foundation for their future endeavors, empowering them to thrive in an ever-changing global landscape.

MYP Subjects

Assessment is based on a demanding set of criterion and specific to each of the subject groups. Those subject groups include:

• Language and Literature (English, Mandarin, German, Korean (grade 10))

• Language Acquisition (English, Mandarin, French, Spanish)

• Individuals and Societies

•  Sciences

• Mathematics

• Arts (Music, Drama and Visual Arts)

• Physical and Health Education

• Design

At CISH, we take great pride in offering a diverse and comprehensive range of subjects, providing our students with the opportunity to deeply explore various fields through a rich, inquiry-based approach. Our curriculum is designed to not only impart knowledge but to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning.

Central to the MYP experience is the emphasis on service and action. Throughout the middle years, all students actively participate in meaningful service projects, cultivating a sense of responsibility and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

In Grade 10, students culminate their MYP journey with the Personal Project—a capstone experience that challenges them to synthesize and showcase the knowledge, skills, and insights they have gained. This project is a powerful demonstration of their growth, creativity, and readiness to take on new challenges, both in the DP and in life beyond school.

Global Contexts

Global Contexts

Each unit of inquiry within each class has a Global Context. The Global Contexts provide students with an opportunity to see the “why” behind their learning; students are able to see the relevance and importance of their learning in terms of the real world.

The MYP Global Contexts are:

• Scientific & Technical Innovation

• Orientation in Space & Time

• Personal & Cultural Expression

• Identities & Relationships

• Globalization & Sustainability

• Fairness & Development

At CISH, we put a significant emphasis on educating the whole child. As such, MYP and DP students are presented with a variety of opportunities both locally and globally that allow them to develop as internationally minded and compassionate young people.

MYP Personal Project

MYP Personal Project

The MYP Personal Project at CISH is a capstone experience for students in the final year of the Middle Years Programme, embodying a significant period of personal inquiry into an area of individual interest. This project is structured around concept-driven learning, allowing students to explore their passions while connecting to global contexts. Throughout the project, students engage in weekly Personal Project sessions, guided by our dedicated Personal Project and MYP Coordinator. These sessions are enriched with additional EAL support to ensure all students can fully express their ideas and engage with the project content effectively. To further enhance their Personal Project journey, each student is paired with a supervisor who provides tailored guidance and support. These monthly meetings between students and supervisors are instrumental in helping students refine their ideas, address challenges, and stay aligned with their project goals. This structured support network ensures that every student not only completes their project but also gains a deeper understanding of the learning process and develops skills that are crucial for lifelong learning. Through the Personal Project, CISH students demonstrate their ability to conduct independent research, think critically, and present their findings in a coherent and reflective manner.
