Math

Math concepts and foundational skills are learned and practiced starting in PK. Our young students will be grouping objects by color, shape, or size; beginning to count small numbers with simple objects; being introduced to basic shapes through puzzles and drawings; using toys to explore in/out, up/down, over/under; singing counting songs and following rhythmic patterns; and playing with containers to explore volume. We cover concepts such as numbers, shapes, patterns, and positional words, but it’s crucial to emphasize 'symbolic exploration' and the transdisciplinary nature of learning. By integrating math and literacy, we reflect how these subjects naturally connect in real life. In K1 and K2, students begin working with larger numbers, recording their work by writing numbers and using them in practical ways, exploring shapes, and building on their understanding of patterns—foundational for algebra as they grow older. They engage in hands-on, interactive experiences using manipulatives, sensory activities, and math through stories. In K3, while continuing these activities, students tackle more complex and formal work, with collaboration among subject teachers enhancing their symbolic learning, preparing them for the next steps in their journey.
