CISH Parent and Student Communication Policy

COMMUNICATION WITH TEACHERS AND THE SCHOOL

Open communication between parents and the school is welcome and essential.  All members of the CISH community are responsible for proactively communicating their needs, questions, ideas and suggestions.  We believe that healthy, effective communication is always in the best interest of the students and the school.  CISH works to constantly improve the quality of its academic program and learning environment and abundant communication is a key element for fostering such growth.

When communicating, we ask that all community members conduct themselves in a positive and professional manner.  Listening is as important as speaking in effective communication.  Everyone should demonstrate respect for those involved in their communications.

CISH values face-to-face interactions and encourages parents to meet in-person with teachers or leadership team members whenever possible.  Toddle in EY/PYP and email (via ManageBac) in MYP/DP are the main platforms for formal communication when meeting face-to-face is not possible.  Please note that CISH teachers do not use WeChat as a communication platform with parents.  Teachers are not permitted to share their WeChat contact with students or parents.

The Chain of Communication at CISH:

  • Teacher:  The first point of contact for academic or minor classroom issues should always be the homeroom teacher in EY/PYP or the specific subject teacher in MYP/DP.  Most issues are easily resolved through direct communication with a teacher.

  • Principal:  For more significant issues or if an issue has not been able to be resolved at the teacher level, parents are welcome to contact the division Principal.

  • Head of School:  Any issue that cannot be resolved at the Principal level may be brought to the Head of School as a final step.

Parents are always welcome to communicate with the relevant PYP, MYP or DP Coordinator if they would like more information about the IB programmes or the curriculum at CISH.  Questions and concerns regarding implementation of the PYP, MYP and DP should also be directed toward the appropriate IB Coordinator.  The IB Coordinator will work with Senior leadership to investigate the concern and ensure that the school is following the Rules for IB World Schools and the specific implementation rules for the programme in question. If it is found that the school is not in compliance, change will be implemented.

PYP and MYP Grade appeals for subjects can be directed to the appropriate subject teacher. Appeals regarding MYP Projects, eAssessment and DP Exam or Core grades should be submitted directly to the IBO since these are marked externally by the IBO.

Our Pastoral Care and Counselling team members are always available for parents to communicate with regarding behavioral or social-emotional concerns.

For questions or concerns regarding tuition fees, school bus routes or meal services, parents may contact the Admissions or Finance Offices. Please do not contact the Admissions Office regarding behavior or academic issues, which should be addressed to the appropriate team member as indicated above.

To report that your child will be absent from school, please use Toddle or ManageBac.

If you have any other questions or concerns, you may contact the CISH Administrative Office at 0551-63736776.
