Welcome to PYP for the 2019-2020 School Year

Welcome Parents and Students to the 2019-2020 school year from PYP at CISH.

This year we will be implementing ‘Inquiry with Rigor’ across the PYP. Rigor is defined as “thorough, exhaustive, or accurate”. Our teachers have been discussing what this means and how we will implement this in our classrooms and our Inquiry and Maths units.

Our teachers are dedicated towards a rigorous program of learning. We model what being a ‘life-long learner” means by collaborating with our grade level teachers each week for Inquiry, Numeracy and Literacy. We also use our Wednesday afternoon collaboration times to enrich our teaching and learn about how to implement IB PYP effectively in our classrooms. We give opportunity for staff from outside PYP to share their approaches and knowledge.  This helps us see where we are taking our students in their learning journey.

Some of our teacher’s shared their thoughts on what it means to be a ‘life-long learner’:

“A lifelong learner is someone who is hungry for learning in all areas of life” Bianca Pretorius G1-2

“Stay curious and don’t just settle in!” Keven Smith G4-1

“…ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge”. Matthew Facey G3-2

“…taking advantage of daily opportunities to learn throughout one’s life (regardless of circumstances)”. Chris Marionni Head of EAL

“Life-long learning is to constantly learn and constantly enrich yourself” Lily Tian Mandarin Teacher

“….fostering a continual sense of curiosity, growth and development”. Travis Allen Gr 5-2

“Learning never has an end date”. Brianne Washburn G5-1

In essence our teachers view their roles in the classroom as being part of the learning journey alongside their students.  We are all learning and growing together and excited about it.

Welcome back everyone. We are excited for a wonderful year of learning and growing together!
