MYP and DP Students receive inspiration

CISH Teacher and Public Speaker Scott Butler delivers inspirational presentation

On 15 November 2018, CISH teacher, public speaker and 2017 Canadian Kickboxing Champion Scott Butler delivered a very motivational and inspirational keynote presentation for grades 8-12 of CISH.  The entire audience which also included various teachers and administrators, were kept fully engaged for the entirety of the speech.  Scott Butler inspired the students to see that life challenges are only temporary and that if used correctly they are doorways to a stronger and more capable self.  Sharing his life journey, both pains and triumphs, Scott encouraged the students to realize that they are inherently perfect just the way they are but that they also have tremendous potential that must be cultivated with hard work applied consistently over time.

Sharing his life experience with teaching, many years in the Canadian Armed Forces, with kickboxing and participating in various international and global sports and military events,  Scott took his 20 years of his remarkable work and life experience (since he applied to be a soldier in the Canadian Army) and encapsulated much of it’s essence into a one hour presentation.  The likely impact of this speaking engagement on the students is a new, broadened perspective of life and a belief that despite current and future obstacles, with the right attitude and focus, any life obstacle can be overcome and dreams can become reality.

Scott Butler’s public speaking journey began when he was 21 years old as a Junior Army Officer with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.  He began delivering junior achievement programs to junior high school students, began delivering keynote speeches at large Remembrance Day Ceremonies and joined the speaking organization Toastmasters. Since that time, Scott Butler has spoken professionally to various profit and non-profit organizations, have spoke about anti-bullying, has won Toastmaster speaking competitions and has completed World’s Greatest Speaking Training course in Silicon Valley, California.  On several occasions, Scott delivered presentations to NATO and partner organizations at international conferences in Europe.  He has attended trainings from many of the great trainers of our time including Anthony Robbins, Robin Sharma, Brendon Burchard, and Jack Canfield.  Scott Butler was decorated with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contributions to connecting the Canadian Armed Forces to community in Canada, the Canadian Forces Decoration and has received Commander commendations for leadership and liaising with the Skills Canada organization.  Scott has attended many international and global events representing Canada as an athlete and a military ambassador.  He won the Canadian National Kickboxing Championships in 2017, the North American Kickboxing Championships and attended the World Championships on team Canada 3 times all held in Europe.
