Have a Heart!
CISH Dissection Club: avian heart dissection
The chicken (avian) heart is a four-chambered heart, which closely resembles the mammalian heart. The avian heart has a few notable differences, mostly relating to size and directionality of major blood vessels.
The students spent around 45 minutes studying the following structures:
1.) Ventricles/atria
2.) Valves
3.) Muscle/fat tissue
4.) Arteries/veins/capillary beds
Overall, the students performed well and maintained proper procedure and protocol.
